South West Indian Group Inc (SWIG) will be hosting the Diwali-Festival of Lights event on the 12th November 2016 in South West Italian Club, between 4.00 pm and 7.30 pm. Group President Dr Parthasarathy Ramesh is excited about this year’s event as there will be focus on Noongar performances with a Bollywood twist. He said that Diwali  is a global celebration of peace, harmony and mutual respect to one another in our diverse, multicultural world. Dr Ramesh said that it will be an evening filled with classical Indian, contemporary and fusion Bollywood performances along with the Noongar performers. There will be Bollywood themed performances from local school groups, Spanish and Zumba dancers. The vibrant Bhangra group are back again this year with another energetic performances. Last year’s event was well remembered for the fire dancer. This year we will be having a Duo Fire dance performance to keep everyone thrilled. Indian Classical dance and group performance is provided by the India Eye Group.There will be  Henna, performances by Bunbury City Brass Band, Harp, Sitar and Noongar art display along with the ever popular Indian Buffet meal.

 Dr Ramesh is keen to showcase the Noongar culture in this year’s Diwali event to show SWIG’s acknowledgement of  the traditional custodians of this land we live and work on and pay their respect to the Elders past, present and future. Dr Ramesh is keen to invite  the multicultural community of Bunbury and South West region to celebrate the evening with them. He feels his group’s vision of “Bringing cultures together in our diverse community” will be visible throughout the Diwali 2016 event similar to previous years.

Dr Ramesh said that this year’s Diwali event will commence at 4.00 pm, an hour earlier than previous years to enable families with young children and older adults to enjoy the evening entertainment till the finish at 7.30pm. Tickets to this year’s Diwali-Festival of Lights event will cost $25 pp for SWIG members, $30 pp for Non SWIG, $15 pp for children aged between 5 and 15 years, children under 5 years have free entry to the whole event. Ticket price includes South Indian Vegetarian Buffet meal catered by Spice Journey. 

This year’s event is supported by City of Bunbury, Office of Multicultural Interests and Bunbury Flying school along with countless volunteers. This is an alcohol and smoke free family friendly event.
